Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I have to be a business student to participate in the YEP?
Answer: No. The Young Entrepreneurs Project is open to students of all disciplines between the ages of 14 - 27. YEP is also open youth and young adults that are not currently enrolled in any school but are interested in self-employment as a possible career path.

Question: Do I have to submit a business plan?
Answer: No. Though submitting a business plan for the competition is highly encouraged, it is not a requiremnt of participating in YEP.

Question: How will you decide who wins the contest?
Answer: Prize packages will be awarded to the top business plans. The plans will be evaluated on the participants’ ability to follow the format that is provided and address all sections of the business plan accurately. Neatness, correct grammar, and potential of the business is also taken into consideration.

Question: How is this prize package possible? What's the catch?
Answer: There is no catch. The training module and prize package is made possible by a grant from the Chancellors Office of the State of California.

Question: When can I take the online training?
Answer: Anytime. But, keep in mind that if you want to participate in the contest you will have to create a business plan after the training. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to write the business plan.

Question: When are business plans for the contest due?
Answer: They are due June 25th, 2010.
