Do you have training or interest in a career and technical education field such as Automotive Technology, Computer Information Systems, Graphic Design, Construction Management, Landscape Design, Child Development, etc.?
Ever thought of self-employment as a viable career option? The Young Entrepreneurs Project will teach you how to make money from your interests and education by starting your own business!
The San Diego Young Entrepreneurs Project is funded by the California Community College Economic and Workforce Development Program. The purpose of YEP is to help young people ages 14 – 27 replace misconceptions of vocational education and blue collar jobs with increased awareness of and aspirations to self-employment as a legitimate lifetime career path providing reliable living wages. The project consists of two major components:
1. Business Training: As a way to help participants learn about self-employment, the Southwestern College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has developed a self-paced online training module and contest. The module provides participants the opportunity to learn how to:
- Start their own business
- Market their business
- Write a legitimate and professional business plan.
2. The Contest: The contest involves writing a business plan using the format and information provided in the training. Business plans submitted for the contest will be evaluated and the top 3 business plan authors will win a prize package consisting of:
- 1 Year of Free SBDC & CITD Workshop Attendance
- Business Management Prize Pack
- Suite of Business Counseling Services
- Free PR For Your Business
- Technical Assistance with identifying and accessing capital to help you launch your business
Additional prizes may be announced at a later date. Please check back often for an update.
